JOSEPHINE NAJJUMA is a founder member and a senior Advocate supporting the legal Aid program at ADVEJI. Josephine is an advocate of the High Court of Uganda and Courts subordinate thereto. She went to Makerere University where she obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree. Thereafter she went to the Law Development Centre where obtained a Diploma in law.
Josephine has a wealth of experience in legal aid work and programming having worked with the Community Law Programme and Mobile Clinic (CLAPMOC) a special project by Public Interest Law Clinic (PILAC) aimed at promoting respect for human rights in the surrounding communities and minimizing vices like domestic violence, Enhancing access to justice for the most vulnerable people in society. As a student at makerere law school, Josephine also worked in the CLINICAL LEGAL EDUCATION team, where selected members engage in the practical aspects of the law and human rights. The project involves in-depth practical exposure to human rights, Alternative Dispute Resolution, justice, democracy, peace building, Public Interest Litigation and advocacy.
Josephine also worked as an intern at the Refuge Law project which provides legal aid to vulnerable people. She is reporter for U_REPORTER. (8500); a mobile technique which is conducted by sending an instant text message to 8500 as a way of reporting any manner of human rights abuse and suggesting practical solutions thereto and also finds time to volunteer for the United Nations.
She has worked as an Associate at Oundo & Company Advocates, Sebalu & Lule advocates and legal consultants (Clerkship) and at Owen Murangira & co. Advocates. Josephine also serves as a Company secretary & member of Board of Directors at St. Martin Percoto Association, a Charitable engaged in community based projects in Mityana District among others.
At ADVEJI Josephine directs a team of lawyers providing legal support and advisory services to victims of human rights violations especially women and children.
