Advocates for Equal Justice Initiative (ADVEJI) was founded by 3 human rights lawyers as an independent, non-profit, non-Partisan Human Rights Organization that defends and promotes the rights of vulnerable people and communities that have been marginalized by poverty and discouraged by unequal treatment through litigation and other mechanisms. These vulnerable people include children, women, Prisoners, Refugees, minority groups and others who are;
- Classified as indigent.
- Intimidated by /and or ignorant of the legal system
- Geographically isolated from proper legal advice and representation/hard to reach areas.
- Victims in public interest cases.

Access to Justice is the hallmark of human rights protection and promotion. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development places Access to Justice under Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 as: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. Target 16.3 under SDG 16 calls to: Promote the rule of law at the national and international levels and ensure equal access to justice for all.
ADVEJI is duly incorporated, under the laws of Uganda as a Company Limited by Guarantee with Certificate No 80020002663543. ADVEJI uses the law as a catalyst for social change and for the protection and promotion of the rights of vulnerable groups in Uganda and across the East African region.
ADVEJI also conducts research, advocacy and community outreach engagements to compliment litigation as a holistic approach in advancing the human rights and civil liberties of vulnerable people. The research assists advocates, rights champions and policymakers in the critically important work of defending people’s rights.
